About us
A registered charity in England and Wales, the Thrale Almshouse and Relief in Need Charity (Thrale) has historic connections within the Ancient Parish of Streatham stretching back to the 1580s.
As well as being a registered charity, Thrale is also a registered company called Thrale Almshouse and Relief in Need Charity Trustee Ltd. In 2015 we were accepted by the Homes and Communities Agency (now Regulator of Social Housing) as a registered Social Housing Provider (no. 4814).
As a Registered Social Housing provider, we are small, community-friendly and this means we can support our residents in a way that is more difficult for larger associations or charities.

We have a wider remit than the provision of housing. Through our Relief in Need Grants we support local groups and organisations with small grants that can have long-term benefits and impact on the neediest in our communities.
Our values and purpose
We value:
-
The right of everyone to live with dignity and as far as possible independently.
-
The right of everyone to have a decent home.
-
The importance of local community in enriching peoples’ lives.
-
Communities with respect for and integration of older people.

Our mission is to use our resources to help improve the lives of people in the Ancient Parish of Streatham.
We will do this by:
-
Being a leading provider of almshouse accommodation for older women.
-
Awarding our Relief in Need fund to the wider community.
-
Creating opportunities to enable people to live independently and with dignity.
-
Working to alleviate isolation and support those who are vulnerable.
-
Building on the Thrale tradition of supporting women.
-
Becoming an active voice in shaping positive attitudes towards older people.
Our trustees
Thrale has six Trustee Directors, many of whom currently or previously lived locally in Streatham, who meet regularly to conduct the business of the Charity.
They set and oversee its strategic direction, ethos and create and implement its Business Plan – including monitoring spending via budgets and ensuring the charity operates within agreed policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and both legal and best practice guidelines.
